About “Mangu N Grits”

Mary and Steven are NYC natives and have been very happily married for several years. Mary (“Grits”) works full-time as an attorney, but has had a passion for cooking since middle school and thoroughly enjoys hosting gatherings for family and friends. Steven (“Mangu”), a full-time educator and well traveled musician, is an avid foodie and techie. Mary is African American, her family has been in the United States for several centuries. Steven is half Puerto Rican and half Dominican. You can expect the delicious recipes and food adventures featured on Mangu N Grits to reflect Mary and Steven’s cultural backgrounds, as well as their exposure to, and appreciation of, the myriad cultures and cuisines that make up NYC, the United States, and the world! 

Additional Random Facts: Grits are a traditional American (southern) side dish that is made of boiled buttery corn meal/hominy and can be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Mangú is a traditional Dominican dish that is made of boiled buttery smashed plantains and can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Both mangú and grits are often paired with eggs, fried meats, cheese, or other proteins and can be viewed as soul food.
